Ponthir Cricket Club

The Ponthir Cricket Club is situated at the Oaklands Ground in Ponthir. There are three senior teams of this club, the firsts, seconds and the thirds, who play in the Glamorgan & Monmouthshire cricket league. There is another senior team which plays in the Newport and District Midweek League, division one.

With an active youth section and junior teams at under 9’s having softball tournaments, there are also other teams of under 11’s, under13’s and under 15’s who play in related sections of the Monmouthshire Building Society Youth Cricket League. Moreover, there are friendly games held at under 9 levels in order to facilitate competitive cricket for numerous young players.

All of the members of the coaching staff are well ECB qualified coaches and professionally certified too to train these young aspiring players. This club has even achieved the ECB Club mark accreditation and new players are welcome to register themselves at the club office premises. One can visit the link provided to register as a player.

The club has seven junior players who play county cricket for Gwent and under 16’s player who play representative cricket for Wales. The club also offers outdoor playing amenities by hiring indoor cricket nets at the Tennis Center and the Ebbw Vale Indoor Cricket School. This is for facilitating winter coaching facilities for senior as well as junior players and the Development academy of the club.

There are social events for junior as well as senior members and utilization of the club house and the ground for special events and use by the locals too. Henry Howard Finance and MDP Landrovers Ltd are the two sponsors of the club. Moreover, this club is supported by around 26 Vice Presidents.
