Poulton Cricket Club
The Poulton Cricket Club> is a registered charity club that promotes cricket sport to all. There are two senior side to this club that play cricket on Saturdays and on Sundays. Founded in 1896, the Poulton Cricket Club has a tradition and heritage of cricket not only in the district but also the country. Early years saw this club playing cricket in the grounds near to the Priory Farm. Earlier, the tournament was played between the sides in the local area itself and the first recorded match was against Ampney United who won the match.
This club offers the members to win a chance to enjoy and to succeed within the sport of cricket. Those who are interested can join the club irrespective of gender, creed, ethnicity or disability. Each and every aspiring player gets an opportunity to play and improve their cricket skills. This club has a First XI, a Second XI and also a Sunday Cricket team. Moreover, the members sustaining the club are those who play and also contribute to the senior teams for the success of the club.
The Poulton Cricket Club won various recognitions, awards and honors. Some of them include the CDCA Division 1 Championship in 1991, the CDCA Division 1 Runners Up position in 1998, the CDCA Division 2 Championship title in 1988 and 1996 and the CDCA Division 3 Championship in 1987.
This team even won the GCL Division 4 Championship in 2001 and the GCL Division 5 Championship in 2000. Moreover, they were the proud winners of the Oaksey Bowl award in 1968, 1981 and in 1984 respectively. Apart from this, this club was the Stroud & Swindon Cup Runners-Up in 2001. In 2002, they even won the Drain Brain Evening League title.
