The County Championship is the domestic first class cricket competition in England and Wales. The championship was first played in 1890 with eight participating clubs and it currently consists of eighteen clubs.

The current champions are Durham CCC. Yorkshire CCC are the most frequent champions since 1890 with 30 wins.

The Championship is made up of a First and a Second division. The bottom two team in the First division are relegated to the Second division and the top two in the Second division are promoted to the First division at the end of each season.

Twenty20 is the newest form of cricket in which each team bats for a maximum of only 20 overs a side, with each innings lasting for 80 minutes.

The Indian Cricket League in India is a private cricket league. In this league, the important championships that involve international players are played in the Twenty20 format. The domestic matches are played according to the 50 over pattern. The matches of the Indian Cricket League are organized at various venues in India. However, in the past these matches were played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon, Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad and Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula. The board members of the Indian Cricket League are Kapil Dev, Kiran More, Dean Jones and Tony Greig.

The Indian Cricket League has several teams like Dhaka Warriors, Lahore Badshahs, Ahmedabad Rockets, Delhi Giants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Hyderabad Heroes, Chandigarh Lions, Chennai Superstars and Mumbai Champs. Every team has a physiotherapist, psychologist, media manager and paid mentor. The coach of these teams has to be a former international cricketer. The players to be selected for these teams should be such that there are 4 international, 2 Indian and 8 domestic cricketers. The Indian Cricket League also has World Teams which are called as The World, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. These teams comprise of several past players of international repute.

The Indian Premier League is engineered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and is a Twenty20 cricket competition. The franchises in this league are as follows – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The first season of the IPL began on 18th April 2008 and was successfully completed on 1st June 2008. Due to a successful first season, it has been planned that in 2010-11, four new franchises would be added.

The IPL has specified some rules regarding the team composition. The overall squad strength must be 16 players along with a coach and a physio. In a single squad, there can be maximum 8 foreign players and in the playing eleven, there can be maximum 4. Every team must have minimum 4 local players. Every team must have minimum 4 players from the BCCI under-22 pool. Such under-22 players must have a minimum salary of 20,000 USD. Other players must be paid minimum 50,000 USD. The players that have been selected as “Icon players” within a team should be remunerated 15 percent more that the highest paid cricketer in the team.
