He played domestic cricket in New Zealand for the Wellington Team. He is an opening batsman in One-Day matches and a middle-order batsman in Test matches for the New Zealand Team. He played for New Zealand from 2008 to 2014.Jesse Ryder made his ODI debut against England in February 2008 and his Test Debut in October 2008 against Bangladesh. His Test debut was not that good as he just made 1 and 38 runs in both innings of the match against a weak bowling attack in Bangladesh.
During his tenure with the team, Ryder has had drinking problems and has invited many controversies around him. Even his fitness has been a question mark as he has stayed in and out of the New Zealand Team regularly.
Still, this talented cricketer cannot be put out of the picture due to his ability to play big knocks at a fast strike rate. He was the maximum runs scorer for the New Zealand Side when they toured India. There he scored 225 runs at an average of 56.25 in the five One-Day Internationals held.
Sahara Pune Warriors signed him in 2011. Earlier he was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore Team.
In addition to the teams mentioned, Ryder has also played for Ireland, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Otago, and Essex, and before he retired in 2017, he signed with the St. Lucia Stars.
