Jack Thomas Ikin
John Thomas Ikin was a former English cricketer who played 18 Test matches for his country. He also played 365 first-class matches in his cricketing career. He was born in Staffordshire in England. Ikin was a solid left-hander who batted with impressive power. His test match statistics show him as a mediocre player but his contribution to the team and to players like Compton and Hutton is undeniable.
Before joining the national team for England, Ikin played domestic cricket for Staffordshire from the age of 16. His playing career was stalled due to the Second World War but Ikin resumed his affair with cricket after the war in 1946 and remained with his team till his retirement. Ikin got his test match debut in 1946 against India. He toured Australia with his team in 1946 and won the appreciation of many of his fans by compiling an obstinate 60 at a match in Sydney as well as featuring in a 118 runs stand at Melbourne.
Ikin scored a total of 606 runs from his Test matches and piled up 17,968 runs from his first-class matches. His batting overall average remained 20.89 and 36.81 for the same. He was also a fairly good bowler and delivered with an average of 30.27 in first-class matches.
Ikin passed away in 1984 at Staffordshire in England.
