Arthur Wood
Arthur Wood was a former English cricketer who played Test matches and first-class matches for his country. Wood was part of 4 test matches and 420 first-class matches for England and Yorkshire respectively. He was a right handed batsman.
Wood played a consecutive streak of 222 first-class games and was able to remain free from injuries in between. His first-class batting average stands at 21.20 and his test match average is 20.00 with a top score of 123 runs and 53 runs respectively. Woods was well known amongst his teammates for his good sense of humor. He was known to be able to perform well under crisis situations. His test debut came just days before he celebrated his 40th birthday.
Wisden commemorated the extra-ordinary cricketer in 1939 by awarding him as the Wisden Cricketer of the Year title. His cricket career was cut short because of the Second World War after which he played only a few first-class matches.
Woods passed away in April, 1973 at Ilkley in Yorkshire, England.
