Christopher James Tavare is a former Englishmen who played cricket for his country England. He had played a total of 29 one-day matches and 31 Test matches till his retirement. He was a right handed batsman and a right armed off break bowler.

Tavare grew up in Orpington in Kent, England and attended the Sevenoaks School. Later on he went to study at the Oxford University from where he graduated in zoology. While at his university, he used to play for the Oxford Univesity cricket team. Further on, he played county cricket with Kent and Somerset County Cricket Clubs.

He earned his name as a very good blocker in Test matches and batted with an overall average of 32.50 with a top score of 149. His batting average for one-day matches is 27.69 while scoring 720 runs overall. Tavare also played 431 first-class matches and 399 List A matches. His batting averages for them remain at 38.79 and 33.45 respectively.

While playing for Kent County Cricket Club from 1974 till 1988, he was declared the captain of his team for three years after which Chris Cowdrey replaced him. In 1989, he joined the Somerset County Cricket Club as a captain and played for them till 1993.
