Arthur Mitchell
Arthur Mitchell was a cricketer who played test matches and domestic cricket for England. He was often referred to as Ticker for his habit of chatting with himself while batting. Mitchell played domestic matches for Yorkshire before being selected to play for England. He was a right handed batsman.
At the beginning of his career, Mitchell started out as a middle-order batsman. However in 1932, after the retirement of Percy Holmes, he was promoted to be the opening batsman. Mitchell was a good fine cutter and was known as a runs accumulator rather than just a stroke maker. All throughout his career, Mitchell played 426 first-class matches and 6 test matches. His batting average for first-class matches remains at 37.47 and for test matches it remains at 29.80.
Mitchell reached his topmost score of 189 runs for a first class match while his best score for a test match is 72 runs. He was also an occasional bowler for first-class matches. His bowling average is 46.71 and he took 7 wickets.
Post-Second World War, Mitchell served as a county coach to Yorkshire and remained with the team till 1970.
