Shubangi Kulkarni was born in Pune in Maharashtra, India in 1959. This leg spinner and a low order batswoman is a former Indian women cricketer. She was even the secretary of the Women’s Cricket Association of India in 2006. She even represented Maharashtra in the women’s domestic cricket and has made her international debut in the first women’s cricket series in India in 1976 against West Indies.

Kulkarni has to her credit a five wicket haul in the first innings that she has bowled, an achievement she would do again four more times in the 19 tests she played in her entire career. During her entire cricket career, she has played in almost 27 ODIs in over five international tours. Her statistics show that she played for two matches in 1978 in the Women’s Cricket World Cup. She played 12 matches in 1982 at the Women’s Cricket World Cup. In 1983-84, she played 4 matches against the Australian team in India. By 1984-85, she performed explicitly in 6 matches against New Zealand in India. In 1986, she played in England in 3 matches.

In her overall career, she had held the captaincy for three test matches for the Indian team. One was against the England team and the other two matches were played against the Australian team. Moreover, she also captained for one ODI match against the England women’s team. Her major teams included the India Women team and the West Zone Women team.

She retired in 1991 from the cricket field to become a cricket administrator. She became the secretary of the WCAI when it got merged into BCCI in 2006.
