A former South African cricketer, Allan Joseph Lamb was born in Cape Province. He played for domestic teams in South Africa before playing internationally for his country. He is currently serving as a cricket analyst. He was a right handed batsman and a right armed medium pacer bowler.
Lamb made his first-class cricket debut in 1972 when he was picked up for the Western Province cricket team. He played with them till 1993 while also being selected to play for Northamptonshire from 1978 till 1995. He played a total of 467 first class matches and 484 List A matches. He has scored a total of 32,502 runs from first-class matches and 15,658 runs from List A matches with averages of 48.94 and 39.14 respectively. He also had good bowling averages for the two with 24.87 for first-class matches and 14.50 for List A matches.
He has played a total of 79 test matches and 12 one day international matches for his country. His batting averages for the two are 36.09 and 39.31 respectively. His best ever topmost score has been 294 runs for first-class matches. While his best bowling figures remains at 1 wicket for 4 runs for List A matches.
Lamb has also captained his team for 3 test matches but lost all 3 of them. Lamb is one of the only 6 players in cricket history to have played at the pitch for all 5 days of a single test match. Once, Lamb had scored 18 runs from just 5 balls off an over from Bruce Reid, an Australian bowler.
After retirement, Lamb is serving as a cricket analyst.
