Neetu David is a former professional cricketer. She also serves as the chairperson for the selection panel of the India Women’s National Cricket Team.

Player Profile

Neetu Lawrence David was born on September 1, 1977, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. She bats right-handed and bowls with a slow left-arm orthodox pace.

She played the role of Bowler for her cricket teams.

Career

She turned pro in the 1992/1993 season for the Uttar Pradesh cricket team. In 1995. She made her national team debut, playing Test Cricket in a match against New Zealand. The same year, she also made her Women’s One Day International debut, playing against New Zealand as well.

In the 1996/1997 season, she started playing for the Railways Women’s Cricket Team. She played with them until the 2012/2013 season.

David holds the fourth-highest record for all-time wicket-taker for India in WODI. She is also the first Indian bowler to score 1000 WODI wickets.

She played at the 2000 Cricket Women’s World Cup but was not that successful in grabbing wickets owing to the flat track.

She announced her retirement from international cricket in 2006.

Although having announced her retirement, she reverted and dismissed her retirement plans in early 2008.

The same year, she was picked up as a part of the team that went in to play the Asia Cup. David has played a total of 10 tests for India with a batting average of a meager 6.25 but a strong bowling average of 18.90.

Career Highlights

She is the leading wicket-keeper in ODI and the fourth-highest wicket taker in women’s test cricket history. Her career-best bowling figures are the best bowling figures in women’s cricket test cricket. In 2006, she was shortlisted for the ICC Women’s International Player of the Year award.
