Andrew John Bichel made his test match debut as well as his International ODI debut both against West Indies. Bichel has played for Worchester, Essex and Hamphire in English County Cricket. He was a star player for the Queensland State team.

Unfortunately, Bichel could not display his talents on-field in several occasions. He has the record for being the 12th man for the Australia Cricket team for 19 times. The 2003 World Cup held in South Africa proved a striking turn for Bickel. He was able to salvage the Australian team more than once. He paved the way for Australia’s victory with his 73 run 8th wicket partnership with Michael Bevan and took remarkable 7 wickets partaking only 20 runs in a match against England.

Though he was unseen on international front on many occasions, Bichel played an important role in domestic cricket. His performance in domestic matches, while playing for Queensland state team, was beyond doubt his best ever seen. During the 2004-05 season of domestic cricket season, Bichel earned the title of Domestic Player of the Year award.

In 2007, Bichel suffered a shoulder injury and was not able to recover from it fully for a long time. Finally, in 2009, he announced his retirement from cricket altogether. Throughout his career, Bichel has played 19 Test matches and 67 ODIs which account for a total of 826 runs. Bichel was also a right arm medium fast seam bowler and acquired a bowling average of 32.24 in tests and 31.57 in ODIs.

Currently Bichel is the bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders team.
