Woorkeri Raman
Woorkeri Raman is presently the coach of the Tamil Nadu team and is regarded as a shrewd thinker of the game.
In order to play for India, he was coerced to open the innings and he attained moderate success in this feat. In his Test debut, he batted at the No. 3 position in the 2nd innings and hit 83 runs. However, in the same match Narendra Hirwani picked up 16 wickets for 136 runs and this overshadowed Raman’s knock. While playing against New Zealand in 1990, he struck 96 runs which was his highest Test score. In 1992-93, when the Friendship Tour was in progress, Raman became the first Indian to hit a century against South Africa. He attained this feat in an ODI and the venue was Centurion Park.
When Raman started his career, he was a left arm spinner who instead of delivering an indecipherable arm ball or imparting outrageous spin had the forte of out-thinking the batsman. Raman was a left handed batsman with an inclination of off side play,
