Ian Blackwell is a left handed middle order batsman and a slow left arm orthodox bowler who has played for England National Cricket team. Blackwell is a strongly built man and hence, a ferocious hitter of the ball. He has also played for the Derbyshire and Somerset clubs.
Blackwell made his international debut in one day cricket in 2002 against Zimbabwe at Colombo in Sri Lanka. He was playing first class cricket since 1997 and has a high score of 247 not out to his name. In his first international match where England played Zimbabwe he got out at 17 runs and was caught by Andy Flower in a ball by Heat Streak. His bowling was not impressive either as he gave away 29 runs in 4 overs, not claiming a single wicket.
In 2003, Blackwell was a part of the England World Cup Team. After England was knocked out in the league matches, Blackwell continued playing county cricket for the Chesterfield and Derbyshire clubs. In 2005, he was made captain of Somerset. In 2006, he was back in the England test team that was touring India. Black well proved to be very expensive as he gave away huge runs to the Indians. Blackwell however bettered his performance in One Day Internationals and even recorded a bowling figure of 3 wickets for 26 runs which is his best bowling figure. The rest of the season saw Blackwell benched as he suffered from shoulder injuries.
He joined Durham after an exit from the Somerset team. In the debut match itself against Marylebone Cricket Club he scored a wonderful century facing bowlers like Sajid Mahmood, Kabir Ali, Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid. He continued impressing with his performances in county cricket but failed to get into the World Cup 2011 team as Michael Yardy was successful in clinching a seat.
In a career total of 34 One Day Internationals Ian Blackwell has played he has scored 403 runs with one 50, and claimed 24 wickets.
