David is a wicket keeper and a right handed batsman in the Kenyan national team. David Obuya is brother of the famous Kenyan all rounder Collins Obuya and wicket keeper Kennedy Otieno.

David's ability to keep his cool and bat under pressure has secured him a major position in his team. When David debuted in the Under 19 World Cup of 1998 he was an opening batsman for the team. Later in 2001 he made his first International debut in Kenya's tour to West Indies where once again he was the opener. David was a member of the 2003 and 2007 World Cup Kenyan squad. In 2003, the same year when Kenya made it to the semi finals of the World Cup, in a match against India he broke his own record set earlier with team mate Toni Suji and set a new record for the best eighth wicket partnership in a match against India.

In 2008 he was again dropped from the side which played against the Pakistan Academy. 2009 proved to be good for him as he showed his class with batting and scored well against the Zimbabwe team.

In his 71 One Day Internationals he has scored 1307 runs and has a top score of 93 runs. As a wicketkeeper he also has 36 catches and 5 stumpings to his name.
