Mohammad Anwar Hossain is a cricketer from Bangladesh who is a right-handed batsman as well as a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He also known by his nickname Monir.
Hossain’s List A debut took place in 2000-2001 and in the same year he made his first-class debut as well.
Anwar Hossain has played in only 3 Tests and 1 one-day international since 2003. Hossain is a rangy and raw medium-pacer who toured Australia in mid-2003. During the second test at Cairns he made his debut in Test cricket but could not take any wicket. Further he was not selected for the tour of Pakistan.
In October 2003 in the first match of England’s tour Hossain was the leader of the attack for the Board President’s team. He took three wickets in this match out of which one was of Michael Vaughan who is a big scalp to get as Vaughan is very much a technically correct batsman. In the spring of 2005 the Bangladesh team toured England and Hossain was a member of this squad. During a warm-up match against Northants he took three wickets and hence was selected for the Test series.
In first class cricket Hossain has played in 31 matches and has scored 229 runs with the highest score of 28 while he has taken 76 wickets at an average of 32.39.
