Michael Edward Killeen Hussey is professional cricketer who plays for the Australian national cricket team. He is a left handed batsman and a right arm medium pace bowler. He is a relative latecomer to both the ODI and Test Australian sides, but his international career is marked by a highly successful beginning.
Initially Hussey was a member of his native Western Australian Warriors where he made 6471 runs due to which he was ranked 8th amongst the run-makers of Western Australia. As he excelled in the ING Cup he got a Cricket Australia contract in the year 2004-05. In One day Internationals Hussey debuted for Australia on 1st February 2004 against India at Perth on his home WACA ground. During this one dayer Hussey scored an unbeaten 17 and assisted Australia to win the match by 5 wickets. Due to the rotation policy of Australia and absence of Ricky Ponting on 18th September 2006 Hussey was made the captain of Australia for the first time in the second round match of the DLF Cup at Kuala Lumpur. Australia lost the match by three wickets to the West Indies however Brad Haddin and Hussey put together a partnership of 165 runs for the sixth wicket which is a world record in all One Day internationals for that wicket.
In the initial part of 2007, Hussey’s form declined an in about 10 innings he had an average of only 8. This did not improve in the World Cup also where he scored 87 runs at an average of 17.4. However this occurred due to the dearth of chances to bat due to the top-order dominance of Australia. On the 6th of January 2008, Hussey scored his 8th test century against India at the SCG. This was the first time Hussey has got over 50 at that ground. He ended up not out on 145, before Ponting declared.
Huseey has been an active part of Chennai Super Kings since its initial time. In 2011 IPL, he was the fifth highest run getter in all of the IPL matches. Moreover, he scored 492 runs from his fourteen innings, with his hgihest 81* against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Also, he has scored four half centuries and three man of the matches so far. He even has good partnership record in 2011 IPL Finals with Murali Vijay. At the recent IPL Players auction, Hussey has been again bought by the team of Chennai Super Kings to play at the 2012 IPL season.
Career Highlights
On April 18, 2006 Hussey set a record as the fastest player in terms of time to reach 1000 Test runs. He reached the milestone in just 166 days.
Hussey was the fastest player to reach the top 10 of the LG ICC cricket ratings. On November 3, 2006, Hussey became the ICC’s ODI Player of the Year at the annual ICC Awards in Mumbai.
