Matthew Peter Maynardimage:Matthew Maynard Oldham|Matthew Maynard Oldham is a former cricket player who was born in 1966 in Oldham. This skilled batsman and also a wicketkeeper got fame for his aggressive nature and dashing strokeplay. He made his career in cricket with Glamorgan team achieving his career best. He made batting average of 42.53, taking 372 catches and making around seven stumpings, earning him many caps for England.

Though he was born in Lancashire, Matthew was brought up in Anglesey island in north Wales, during which time he joined the Glamorgan team. In 1985, he hit a century on his debut match, with 3 consecutive sixes to reach 100. In 1986, he became the youngest ever player to have scored 1000 runs for the country.

Between 1995 and 2000, Matthew also captained the Glamorgan team for five season. His achievement as a captain even included leading the team to victory in the county championship in 1997, with their first appearance since 1977 in a cup final in 2000 at Lords.

The teams that he played for during his cricket career include Glamorgan (1985-2005), Marylebone Cricket Club in 1988, Northern Districts (1990-1992) and Otago (1997-1998).
