Following the demolition they inflicted in the test series, West Indies will be hoping to march further in the one-dayers as the five-match ODI series gets underway from Friday in Khulna.
West Indies taught Bangladesh quite a few lessons as they toppled their opponents mercilessly when it mattered the most.
The one-day format usually gives Bangladesh some hope of a better showing than the longer run. The team played its ODI in April when they finished as runners-up in Asia Cup. Those kind of performances give the team plenty of hope but the task awaiting them is nothing short of uphill.
Their premier all-rounder, Shakib al Hasan, is out due to a shin injury and that has upset the balance of the team altogether. Shakib has not missed an ODI in more than four years. Such is his significance that the selectors debated whether to include a batsman in his place or a bowler. Ultimately, uncapped Mominul Haque was included.
Tamim Iqbal will be the key to their fortunes as the explosive opener has been in good form off late. For once, the home side will not have as many spinners as they are used to fielding.
West Indies have largely dominated the proceedings on their tour and will be looking to cap off further success. After the triumph in the test matches, they were merciless in the warm up fixture as well, beating BCB XI by 118 runs. Lendl Simmons scored a fluent 84 while Devon Thomas made a whirlwind half-century.
Chris Gayle will be the biggest weapon the team has and he looks all set to pile on the misery on the Bangladesh bowlers. Marlon Samuels had success in the Bangladesh Premier League as well and would be keen on continuing his dream year further.
The match starts at 9.00am local time.
