The winners of two previous editions of Champions League will be in action on Saturday in a match that could be nothing more than a formality, should the events not go according to their plan.
Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings in Johannesburg in the evening.
Such has been the misery of IPL teams in the current Champions League that none of them has been able to beat a team from outside India. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have also suffered the same fate with two defeats in as many matches.
Although their match starts later in the evening, both teams will undoubtedly have a stern watch on the afternoon game when Yorkshire play Lions. A win for Lions will confirm the exit tickets for both Indian teams. To make matters worse, last three evening matches have been washed out due to rain.
Chennai Super Kings were beaten by Lions as the bowlers struggled to defend 158 under wet bowling conditions. While captain MS Dhoni has maintained his typical stance suggesting that there is not too much to worry about, the fans and management are equally aware of the woes that surround the team.
They require their bowlers to click in the crucial match given that run rates will come into play should Chennai have any hope of progressing to the semi-finals.
Mumbai Indians will feel unlucky that their match against the hugely unimpressive Yorkshire was washed out by rain after 18 overs. Mumbai were well-placed at 156-6 and looked in good shape to win their first match.
Keiron Pollard is one man who can change the game on its head as he showed his class with a 20-ball 37. Sachin Tendulkar has been the underperformer so far this year but it looks highly unlikely that he will be left out.
The match will start at 5.30pm.
