After a great performance in the home series against Pakistan cricket pundits and fans were hoping that Sri Lanka will repeat the same feat against India.
Sri Lankan cricket fans had very high hopes before the start of the series. And they were considered the hot favorite before the start of the first ODI but the result jolted them badly.
In the first ODI, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli bashed Sri Lankan bowlers and they managed to pile up a mammoth target of 315 runs.
Sri Lanka was not up to the task while chasing this huge target. Wickets kept on falling like dried leaves but Kumara Sangakara stood firm. He somehow managed to save Sri Lanka from a complete disappointment as they were able to score 293.
Though they lost the match, it was a respectable start as they did not surrender completely.
It was obvious that after the defeat in the first ODI Sri Lanka will strike back strongly. An overconfident Indian side made things pretty easy for Sri Lanka as they were just bowled out for 138 runs.
It was nothing less than a cakewalk for Sri Lanka to chase this target and they recorded a nine-wicket win against India.
Angelo Mathews and Parera were the stars for Sri Lanka as they both bagged three wickets each for 14 and 19 runs respectively.
A shameful defeat in the second ODI was enough to wake up team India from the slumber and in the third ODI they stepped in the ground with high hopes.
Sri Lanka came out to bat first in the third ODI. After losing three quick wickets, the two veterans Kumara Sangakar and Mahel Jayawardene steadied the ship and the late partnership between Mathews and Mendis helped Sri Lanka to post a decent target of 287.
Sri Lankan bowlers were once again listless and they were not able to stop India from crossing the line. Gambhir and Raina were too good for the bowlers and their respective half-centuries won the game for India.
Once again it was India who was leading the five matches ODI series, 2-1.
