West Indies eye a rare moment of glory as they are within striking distance of a series win against a major nation after over three years.
The second test in the two-match series starts on Thursday as the hosts look to continue their dominating run against New Zealand.
West Indies have dominated New Zealand in all formats of the game on the ongoing tour and the first test match was no different as they romped home by 9 wickets in comfortable style.
The last series win for West Indies, against an opposition excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, came in 2009 when they beat England 1-0 in a five-match series.
For New Zealand, the record is even worse as their last win was back in 2006 against West Indies. They have however done well in recent times to bounce back and level series and that is what they will look to do yet again though the challenge is tall.
West Indies have been forced to make one change to their squad from the last test match. Fidel Edwards has been included as a fortune following the groin injury to Ravi Rampaul. Rampaul picked up four wickets in the previous test.
Sunil Narine and Kemar Roach look to continue bamboozling the opponents as they did most of the damage earlier as well. With the bat, Chris Gayle returned to test line up in style with a commanding century, also supported by another century from Keiran Powell.
Daniel Vettori, the most capped Kiwi all-rounder, has suffered a groin strain that sees him out of action and will be a blow for the New Zealand team that is already struggling to remain competitive.
The responsibility will be even higher on Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum who did reasonably well in the first match but received little support from their partners.
The match will be played in Jamaica.
