The month of May begins with two matches to be played in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. The first of the two matches will see Pune Warriors and Deccan Chargers line up for action in Cuttack, with this being the second meeting between these two sides this season.
Deccan Chargers have three points from eight matches so far, and their lone win has come against Pune Warriors only. They will be eager for a repeat of such performance on Tuesday, though the task is not easy.
With points desperately needed, Chargers need to find consistency after falling away to another poor defeat to Mumbai Indians on Sunday. In that match, their batting caved in for only 100 with Shikhar Dhawan top scoring with 29.
JP Duminy chipped in with 25 but the overall effort was disappointing. The bowlers did their best to defend the small total though it was always too much to ask of them. Dale Steyn’s figures were impressive and he will again be their trump card on Tuesday.
With four wins from nine matches, Pune Warriors slipped to seventh position on the points table after their defeat to Deccan Chargers. Set a tall target of 178, they lost the match by 18 runs as five batsmen reached 20s but failed to make the big score they needed.
Captain Sourav Ganguly will be looking for overall improvement from his players as they struggled with both bat and ball. Marlon Samuels and Jesse Ryder will be the key players with the bat while the bowling duties will largely be taken care of by Ashish Nehra.
Steve Smith blasted his way to 13-ball 26 that included three sixes but he needs support from his fellow batsmen to do well in order to set up a commanding score.
The match will start at 4.00 pm in Cuttack.
