Monday will see the start of another week in the fifth season of Indian Premier League as Mumbai Indians host Delhi Daredevils. The two sides have done reasonably well so far and will be in action after a relatively free period of sorts by the league’s standards.
Delhi Daredevils scored a comprehensive win against Chennai Super Kings in the last match, chasing down the paltry total in less than 14 overs. The bowlers started their day on the right note and never let off as Chennai were not allowed to score freely.
In reply, the Daredevils batsmen went ablaze after the total as Kevin Pietersen and Virender Sehwag both showed aggressive intent and declared their intentions clear for the upcoming matches as well. Irfan Pathan has been in good all-round form too while Morne Morkel is the trump card with the ball.
As a result, Daredevils seem to have carved out a well-balanced side that is capable of scoring high totals as well as restrict the opposition.
Mumbai Indians have been in phenomenal touch ever since their shocking defeat in the opening match. After that, they have now won three matches in a row and are comfortably placed in third spot. They would like to stretch the winning form further, after scoring a 27-run win against Rajasthan Royals in the last match.
Kieron Pollard was the stand out performer in that match with 64 runs off just 33 balls before he followed it up with a four-wicket haul. Mumbai have depth and options in both bowling and batting as Ambati Rayudu scored a fluent 47.
With the ball, the name Lasith Malinga rings alarm signs for the opposition on its own while Munaf Patel has been in rich wicket-taking form and Daredevils would do better not to take him lightly.
The match will be played in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.
