The Match:
The Mumbai Indians will host the Kolkata Knight Riders in the second playoff game at the Wankhede Stadium n Mumbai. This will also be the 72nd game of the IPL and will see the two teams wanting to win it – a loss here will end the campaign for the side and they will also end up missing the Champions League T20 berth in the process. >
How the two teams match up: The two teams, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders have played only one game in the tournament this season and it was the last one of the league stage. Kolkata Knight Riders looked good to win it for most part of the game but this was followed by some a startling last over that saw the Mumbai Indians take away 21 runs in the six balls that were bowled. The Knight Riders had missed a top two berth and will now need to go through to the entire qualification process again.
Ground Conditions: The game will be played at the Wankhede Stadium, a second game in a row on that pitch. This will mean that it will slow the pitch down and could help the Kolkata spinners in the side. It will also given the Mumbai Indians a few selection headaches!
The Teams: Speaking of headaches, yes, the Mumbai Indians will need to look very closely at the side that they have. In the last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, they ended up with an extra bowler and yet, conceded 175, which means that they could be looking at relooking their bowling attack.
Mumbai’s problem is the presence of their fifth bowler – Andrew Symonds and Kieron Pollard have not done too good a job in getting the better of the opponents. Ray Price played only one game but struggled through to the close. Will be interesting to see whether the side goes with him again.
The Kolkata Knight Riders will probably go with the same 11 that has played in the last two games, except that they will look to get a little more from the bowling of Ryan ten Doeschate, who hasn’t had an excellent time of it.
Players to look out for: Shakib al Hasan and Iqbal Abdulla will be the key for the Kolkata Knight Riders whereas the Mumbai Indians will rely on a quick start – even a Rohit Sharma could be looked at as an opener.
Prediction: Kolkata will go into the game as favourites given that the slow pitch will assist them more than Mumbai.
