Article info

The Match: In the 56th game of the Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings will host the Delhi Daredevils at the M Chidamabaram stadium in Chepauk. The two sides are in different worlds; one is looking for a chance to top the table and the other will be hoping for some kind of a miracle to make it through to the next round of the tournament.

How the two teams match up: The Chennai Super Kings are clearly the form team of the tournament. They beat Rajasthan in Rajasthan, in that fortress called the Sawai Man Singh stadium and were clearly the better of the two sides after they had scored 196. They now have 14 points from 11 games and will look to finish in the top two by winning at least two of their last three games.

The Delhi Daredevils are down and almost out. They have won four of their 11 games and will need to win the remaining three and then pray that they can do something interesting out of the net run-rate.

Ground Conditions: The pitch will be towards the slower side as the Super Kings will be playing on pitches which have now been used for some time since the start of the World Cup. This could necessitate a change in the bowling – spinners will be given a preference.

The Teams: The Super Kings are in super form and the reason for that is their top-order is as fit as a fiddle. Murali Vijay was the missing link to their top-order batting and he has been able to finally find form in the game against the Rajasthan Royals, getting the man of the match award in the progress.

On the other hand, Dwayne Bravo’s presence in the middle-order adds more balance to the side but the side will need much more in terms of bowling from him.

Delhi will miss Virender Sehwag. Sehwag has been ruled out of the tournament with a recurring shoulder ailment and will now be replaced at the top of the order. James Hopes will lead the side in his absence and that will mean that the others will have to step up the plate.

Players to look out for: The Delhi Daredevils will look to have much more support from Dave Warner at the top of the innings and Morne Morkel with the ball. The Super Kings will look to their captain Dhoni to get another quick-fire knock towards the end of the innings.

Prediction: Chennai will be heavily favourites to win this one.
