The Match:
The Kochi Tuskers Kerala will look to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at home in the Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The Tuskers go into the game with a win over the Daredevils whereas the Knight Riders had earlier defeated Deccan Chargers in the previous game. >
How the two teams match up:
The Knight Riders are on a clear roll. They have won three games in a row, which follows the three games that they had won in a row in the previous set of games as well, making it six wins from their nine games. This puts them to the top of the points table. Against them will be a side which has struggled a little in the tournament and have been inconsistent, but with four wins so far, it means that they have a decent chance of making it to the next round.
Ground Conditions: The Nehru Stadium will have a good bounce and carry but what needs to be seen is whether the pitch can hold up to games off every alternate day given that it is not a full-fledged Test match venue.
The Teams: The Kolkata Knight Riders have lost Shakib al Hasan for this game and probably for the rest of the tournament after he had to return back to be with his mother. However, that gives an opportunity to Mark Boucher to get into the side, after only a few days back he was commentating for the tournament!
More importantly, the return to form of Yusuf Pathan should help the side, as should the aggressive batting from the two other Indians in the top order – Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary – both of whom have been the form players for the side.
The Kochi Tuskers have to get their batting right. In the previous game, the start by Brendon McCullum got the team rolling but it has been seen that the side has struggled each time McCullum has got out early. This will cause much heartache to the captain Mahela Jayawardene, who has been out of form and will look to regain some of the runs.
The bowling is slowly shaping up well with the emergence of Prasanth Parameswaran being very good news for the side.
Players to look out for: While the Kolkata Knight Riders will hope for an encore from Pathan, the Tuskers will require that they can get something out of the top-order barring McCullum. Jadeja needs to be promoted up the order in the batting.
Prediction: Kolkata should win this one.
