The Match: This is the 27th game of the Indian Premier League and will see the Mumbai Indians play the Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Hyderabad. This is a home game for the Deccan Chargers. >
How the two teams match up: Mumbai Indians are clearly the form team of the tournament, having won four of the five games that they have played so far. Their only loss came against the Kochi Tuskers but they have won against the Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors and Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Deccan Chargers have been patchy in their performance so far. They lost two, won the third, lost the fourth and then won the fifth game to have four points from five games.
The Chargers will be relieved to have overcome their jinx of having not won a single game at home, having overcome the Royal Challengers Bangalore here.
Ground Conditions: It should be a flat wicket with lot of bounce and a chance for the pace bowlers to get something out of the pitch. This also means that the Chargers will want to look at going into the game with two frontline spinners.
The Teams: Mumbai Indians will look to win their fifth game in the six games, making qualification for the next stage much easier. They may not change too many things for this game but they will need to look more closely at the opening partnership.
Sachin Tendulkar has opened with three different batsmen in the tournament so far; having had Davy Jacobs, James Franklin and Rajagopal Satish as his partners. One senses that Satish could get another opportunity despite his seven-ball duck in the previous game.
Rohit Sharma’s batting in the previous game was pleasing to the eye and he will be the one player who the side will rely on heavily to dig them out of early trouble if any.
The Deccan Chargers have not played a game since Tuesday. That is a break of four days, one of longest of the tournament. In a way this could go against the side given that it could break the momentum as well.
Kumar Sangakkara will continue to hold the key but it is important to see that Bharat Chipli is the form player for the side. It may augur well for the side if they can get him to bat higher up the order – probably at the number four position.
Players to look out for: Cameron White made a good return to the IPL and he will be the player to look out for. So will Abu Nechim for the Mumbai Indians as a support bowler.
Prediction: Mumbai will be favourites for this game.
