The Match:
In what will be one of the most looked out for games in the tournament, the Mumbai Indians will play the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This is the 25th game of the Indian Premier League and will see the two sides from the previous IPL’s final play against each other in this one. >
How the two teams match up:
Mumbai Indians currently are at the top of the table along with the Kolkata Knight Riders with three wins in the tournament. They have played four games and their only loss came against the Kochi Tuskers and at home. The wins have been against Delhi, Bangalore and Pune.>
On the other hand, Chennai have won, lost, won and lost again. The patchy performance is courtesy their bowlers who have given away much and have not been able to give them the breakthrough when required. The Super Kings have won against Kolkata and Bangalore, while losing to Kochi and Punjab.
Ground Conditions: The game will be played at Wankhede Stadium and it is a surprise to see two pitches on the same ground produce such different results. In the Kochi game, the Tuskers were able to chase down 189 for a win whereas against the Pune Warriors, a target of 119 was got to in the 20th over of the innings!
The Teams: Mumbai Indians had an injury issue in the last game when they missed out on the services of Harbhajan Singh. He was replaced by pace bowler, Abu Nechim, who did a good job in that opportunity that he got – picking up a couple of wickets. If Harbhajan Singh, it will be interesting to see whether Nechim gets dropped.
There is a good chance that the Mumbai Indians may look to go with Nechim and Harbhajan and rest Ali Murtaza in this night encounter.
The Chennai Super Kings have some thinking to do. They cannot keep picking Albie Morkel and expect that the things will go right for him, especially after the kind of performance that was meted out by him. The time will be right to pick up a specialist bowler in his place – probably a Suraj Randiv to replace him.
Players to look out for: The Mumbai Indians middle order hasn’t had too much time in the middle; Symonds will look to play a big one. On the other hand, Chennai need Suresh Raina to get to a quick-fire half century to propel the score forward.
Prediction: Mumbai Indians will need to play out of their skins but they will be favourites.
