The Match:
In what will be the first return game of the season, the Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in what will be the 17th game of the tournament. The two teams had met in Jaipur on Friday which makes it the first instance of back-to-back games for teams this year.>
How the two teams match up:
The Kolkata Knight Riders had begun with a loss to Chennai but have beaten the Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals in successive games now. The Kolkata Knight Riders were chasing a total of 160 against the Royals and were able to achieve the score with absolutely no fuss given the batting of Gautam Gambhir. >
On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals started off with a couple of wins. They overcame the Deccan Chargers away and beat Delhi Daredevils at home to make it two in a row, before encountering the fast-improving Kolkata. The loss was rather one-sided and would have got Shane Warne thinking of newer tactics against the batting of Gambhir.
The team winning this one will make it to three wins and be an early leader of the pack.
Ground Conditions: The match will be played at the Eden Gardens and the pitch in Kolkata will assist the slower bowlers than the quick ones. However, bowlers of the likes of Brett Lee and Shaun Tait could find it interesting given the dual bounce that the pitch offers sometime.
The Teams: The Rajasthan Royals had got in Shane Watson in the previous game and while he did a little bit of batting and bowling, he was not as useful as what one would have thought him to be. The reason was that he batted at the number four position. Watson’s position is at the top of the order and that is what he needs to do – get going at the top and bat to the best of his capability.
Kolkata may not make any changes to the side that beat the Rajasthan Royals; if at all they make closely at their bowling and make a change to try and get a specialist bowler in place of Rajat Bhatia.
Players to look out for: Given the way Gambhir batted, it is definitely going to be him, but apart from him Kolkata will also rely on Eoin Morgan. Rajasthan will look to depend on Ross Taylor to get the innings moving in the second half.
Prediction: Difficult to call, another cracking contest in the making.
