Canada won the toss and elected to bat first. Canada got off to a superb start as they brought up their 50 in just 4.4 overs. Hiral Patel did the most of the damage bringing up his fifty off 37 balls. John Davison scored just 14 runs off 12 balls in his last ODI innings. Patel hit three sixes and five fours in his 45-ball 54 runs before he was out caught by Mitchell Johnson off the bowling of Shane Watson.

Zubin Surkari scored 34 runs from 69 balls and added 68 runs for the third wicket with Ashish Bagai. Bagai played well to score 39 runs from 55 balls with six fours. AT 150 for 2 in the 28th over, Canada looked set for a huge total. However, they lost their last eight wickets for just 61 runs to be all out for 211 runs in the 46th over. Karl Whatham (18) and Harvir Baidwan (17) were the only other batsmen to reach the double figures. Brett Lee picked up 4/46 while Shaun Tait (2/34) and Jason Krejza (2/44) picked two wickets apiece.

Chasing just above four runs an over, Australian openers piled up a huge 183 runs for the first wicket to bat Canada out of the game. Shane Watson scored 94 runs from 90 balls with nine fours and four sixes. This was Watson’s second 90+ score in ODIs. Brad Haddin too batted equally well to score 88 runs from 84 balls that included 11 fours and two sixes.

Both the batsmen departed in quick succession and Ricky Ponting too failed to go beyond seven runs. Michael Clarke (16*) and Cameroon White (4) completed the formalities as Australia achieved their target with still 91 deliveries left in the game. Shane Watson was declared the man of the match for his 94 runs.
