Ireland won the toss and put South Africa into bat first. Boyd Rankin removed the in-form Hashim Amla (18) in the fifth over of the innings while Graeme Smith (7) was run out going for a non-existent run. Morne Van Wyk, batting at number three, scored a 41-ball 42 runs with seven fours and a six but could not cash in on the two dropped chances he got.Impressive as usual>

Jacques Kallis had another poor outing when he was run out on 19 runs. Faf du Plessis (11) too returned to the pavilion leaving South Africa struggling at 117/5. JP Duminy and Colin Ingram then combined together to add 87 runs for the sixth wicket. Ingram made 46 runs from 43 balls with seven fours.

Duminy started off cautiously brining up his fifty off 67 balls. He also added 65 runs for the seventh wicket with Johan Botha, who remained unbeaten on 21 runs. Duminy was unfortunate to be dismissed for 99 runs that came off 103 balls and included six fours and a six. South Africa made 272/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing a tough 273 runs under lights, Ireland kept losing wicket at regular intervals and never looked like achieving their target. Only Gary Wilson crossed the 20- run mark as the other batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Wilson top scored for Ireland with 31 runs that came from 48 balls with four fours and a six. His 41-run partnership with Kevin O’Brien (19) was to be the only notable partnership.

Morne Morkel picked up 3/33 while Robin Petersen returned figures of 3/32 off his eight overs as Ireland were dismissed for just 141 runs. JP Duminy was declared the man of the match for his match-winning 99 runs.
