India beat Netherlands by five wickets in their Group B match at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. India are now at the top of the table with seven points from four games.
Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first. Eric Szwarczynski and Wesley Barresi started cautiously adding 56 runs for the first wicket. Szwarczynski scored 28 runs from 42 balls before he was bowled by Piyush Chawla. After the solid start, Netherlands lost track losing wickets at regular intervals. Yuvraj Singh picked up the wicket of Barresi (26) and Ryan ten Doeschate (11) while Ashish Nehra picked up Tom Cooper (29).
Bas Zuiderent (0) and Tom de Grooth (5) too fell cheaply to leave Netherlands struggling at 108/6. Skipper Peter Borren top scored for his side with a 36-ball 38 runs that included two sixes and three fours. Mudassar Bukhari too chipped with an 18-ball 21 runs with two sixes and a four. For India, Zaheer Khan picked up 3/20 while Chawla (2/47) and Yuvraj Singh (2/43) picked up two wickets apiece.
India got off to flier with Virender Sehwag (39) and Sachin Tendulkar (27) adding 69 runs in just over seven overs. During his short innings, Tendulkar became the first batsman to score 2000 runs in the World Cups. However, Netherlands struck back through Pieter Seelar (3/53) who picked up both the openers in quick succession. Yusuf Pathan (11) was promoted up the order but lasted only 10 balls while Kohli (12) was bowled by Borren (1/33) to leave India struggling at 99/4.
Gautam Gambhir hit a quick run-a-ball 28 runs and raised 40 runs for the fifth wicket with Yuvraj Singh, who scored his third successive half century and also added 52 runs for the undefeated sixth wicket with MS Dhoni to ensure that India won the game comfortably. Yuvraj hit seven fours in his 73-ball 51 runs while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 19 runs from 40 balls. Yuvraj was declared the man of the match for his all-round performance.
