Sri Lanka were looking good at 146/3 in 32.5 overs. The draw meant that both the teams shared 1 point each and Sri Lanka and Australia are now placed second and third respectively in Group A.Will he be happy to get the one point?>

Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first. Shaun Tait struck for the Aussies in his first over, removing the dangerous Tillakaratne Dilshan. Dilshan scored just four runs before he was caught by Cameroon White at second slip. Upul Tharanga too did not last long and soon followed his partner to the pavilion. He made only six runs before he was superbly caught by Steven Smith off the bowling of Brett Lee.

At 31/2 in the seventh over, Sri Lanka needed a partnership to get back in to the game and Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara had all the experience in the world to respond to such situations. The duo added 44 runs for the third wicket and looked set for a revival. However, it was Steven Smith again who dismissed Jayawardene with a superb throw at the bowler’s end. Jayawardene made 23 runs from 25 balls with three fours.

Sangakkara then added an unbeaten 71 runs for the fourth wicket before the heavens opened up. In the meanwhile, Sangakkara registered his sixth World Cup fifty. He remained not out on 73 runs that came from 102 balls with seven boundaries. Thilan Samaraweera too looked good in his 48-ball 34 runs that included two fours. For Australia, Tait (1/23) and Lee (1/27) were amongst the wickets.

Sri Lanka will now play Zimbabwe in their next match on Thursday while Australia will head to Bangalore to face Kenya on Sunday.
