Ireland will look to repeat their giant killing act when they take on India in this Group B encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday, March 6. >
It is the same venue where Ireland beat England three wickets in their last game a couple of days back. India will be wary of their opponents and will be looking for a win themselves, after that dramatic tied game against England last Sunday.
Ireland will be buoyant after that historic win. The way they chased that big score down showed that it wasn’t a fluke win. The win was due to some calculated aggression and a wonderful reading of the situation. They would want to repeat that against the Indian bowling attack which has looked the weakest among the top nations’.
India need to focus on their bowling and fielding if they have any ambitions of winning this tournament. Apart from Zaheer Khan, no bowler looks threatening enough. His efforts in the last game were wasted by some wayward bowling in the end by Piyush Chawla and Munaf Patel.
Harbhajan Singh should focus on picking up wickets and should look to attack more. It will be interesting to see if MS Dhoni picks up Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of Chawla in this game.
Ashish Nehra is also available for selection after fully recovering from his injury problems. The Indian batting has looked excellent in this tournament. Sachin Tendulkar has looked at ease in this tournament and Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh have found form. However, Yusuf Pathan has not had a good outing in the last two games and could be promoted up the order to give him some much needed batting time ahead of the knock out rounds.
Ireland have no pressure and they will like to play a waiting game, like they did against India. India. However, India are the favorites and should be able to see off this Irish challenge.
