Pakistan will look to continue their imperious form in the 2011 ICC World Cup, when they take on Canada in a Group A encounter at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday, March 3. >
They have won both their games so far, the first against a lackluster Kenya side and the second against one of the tournament favorites, Sri Lanka. Canada, on the other hand, have lived up to their minnows tags and have lost their first two games, against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.>
This should be another easy win for Pakistan. They have been very good in all the departments and really do have an all round team. Their middle order is very experienced and strong and that was evident in both their games. Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq have both scored two fifties each and have now been involved in two very good partnerships.
While the game against Kenya cannot be taken as an indicator, the game against Sri Lanka can be. They scored at a healthy rate and their shots too were relatively risk free. That kind of maturity comes only through experience. However, Misbah is struggling from a niggle and may not play in this game.
Pakistan, however, would want their openers to give them a good start and that is likely to happen in this game, against a weak and poor Canadian attack. The less said about Canada, the better. They have easily been the worst team in the tournament thus far. While the Sri Lanka game was tough, their performance against Zimbabwe is unpardonable.
Only Rizwan Cheema seems to be well equipped to play against the bigger teams, while John Davison has been a disappointment with the bat. The Canada batsmen are once again going to struggle against the Pakistani bowling, which has been very good. Shahid Afridi once again will be the man to watch.
