Sri Lanka beat India, 1979 World Cup: India had not gone into the second World Cup with too many expectations but were expected to steamroll the qualifiers Sri Lanka. Instead, in a game that started on June 16 and ended on June 18, the Indians were beaten by their minnow opposition by 47 runs. Sri Lanka scored 238/5 and bowled India out for 191. Helped beat West Indies>

India beat West Indies, 1983 World Cup India went into the third edition of the World Cup having won only one game in all in the first two editions. West Indies had yet to drop a game and had won both the first two tournaments. In the very first game, India stunned the West Indies side but both teams entered the final later. India made 183 and the West Indies looked to be winning their third one in a row when they were bowled out for 140.

Kenya beat West Indies, 1996 World Cup: By this time, the West Indian side had degenerated into a team that performed rather poorly on occasions and inconsistency was their middle name. And yet, they were leagues ahead of Kenya. On paper. In this tournament after being bowled out for 166, Kenya stunned the cricket world by getting rid of the opposition for a sub-100 score and winning the game.

Zimbabwe beat India, 1999: Henry Olonga will remember this game and so will Zimbabwe. Batting first, Zimbabwe made a decent 252 but the Indians looked like chasing it down easily. At 246/7, India were only seven runs away and had three wickets and 11 balls in hand. Instead, Olonga, who had previously bowled only three overs in the game and conceded many runs, came on to bowl and bowled the Indian side out for 249!

Ireland beat Pakistan, Bangladesh beat India, 2007 World Cup: With two days of each other, both, India and Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup. First, Bangladesh beat India in a one-sided game and then first-timers Ireland chased down a rather low score from Pakistan to send them packing. Without India and Pakistan in the second round, it turned out to be one of the most boring World Cups.
