New Zealand were all-out for 293 in their second innings at stumps on day four of the second and final Test match at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. Pakistan now need 274 runs to win the Test when play resumes tomorrow.>
Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill added 120 runs for the first wicket to give them home team a great start. McCullum scored 64 runs from just 111 balls that included six fours and a six. he was out caught at long-off trying to up the scoring rate. Guptill (73) then added 46 runs with Kane Williamson (15) before New Zealand lost two both the batsmen when the score was 166. At tea, the Kiwis were still comfortably placed at 181/3.>
However, Jesse Ryder (17) fell immediately after the break to the spin of Mohammad Hafeez, who also accounted for James Franklin (6). Ryder has had a poor run of form throughout the season and finished the two-match series with an aggregate of 39 runs that included two golden ducks.
Ross Taylor then added 60 runs with Reece Young (20) to revive the innings but both the batsmen fell on the same score to bring the visitors back into the game. Taylor scored 52 runs with four fours and a six. First innings centurion Daniel Vettori (1) too failed to score and some late hitting from Tim Southee (22) took the score to 293.
For Pakistan, Umar Gul took 4/61 while Abdur Rehman took 3/119 from 39 overs. Mohammad Hafeez was picked two crucial wickets to end on 2/31 from 13 overs. Although Pakistan just need a draw here to win the series, a 2-0 score line would do a world of good for the visitors. The pressure now clearly on the home team to win the Test and save the humiliation of losing a Test series at home.
