Pakistan will look for revenge when they take on New Zealand in the second T20 international at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday, December 28. The visitors currently trail New Zealand 1-0 in the three match series, after losing the opener on Boxing Day. New Zealand won the game convincingly with five wickets and almost three overs to spare, chasing a par score of 143. >
Pakistan have no one else to blame but themselves. They got off to a flying start in the first five overs of the game, only to throw it away by losing four quick wickets. Only a flourish from the tail enders, Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz, helped them reach a decent total. The batsmen left too little for the bowlers to defend on a track that was good for batting.>
They wouldn’t want that to happen in the second game if they were to level the series. The top order had great difficulty in coping with movement and bounce. Younis Khan, Umar Akmal, Fawad Alam and Abdur Razaqq, the spine of the side made just 12 runs between them, which cost them the game ultimately. One of them has to score heavily in this game, to relieve the pressure on the shoulders of Shahid Afridi, who decided to open the batting in the last game.
New Zealand would have been happy to get the monkey off their backs. The win would have brought enormous relief to the hearts of a team who had a futile subcontinent tour recently. They would want to wrap the series up by winning this game and would not want to let Pakistan get back into it.
Tim Southee was fantastic at Auckland, getting a five for and a hat trick. He had great support from Scott Styris in the middle of the innings and the two combined to stifle the Pakistani scoring rate. However, New Zealand will be worried about the amount of runs they leaked at the beginning and the end of the innings. The return to form of Martin Guptill would have also been a relief, after the opener smashed a wonderful half century to set up the win for the Kiwis.
New Zealand will certainly have their tails up after the win and are favorites to win this one as well.
