IPL 4 player auction to have 416 cricketers
The Indian Premier League will go on as promised after all and will have ten teams. This will mean that there will be 74 games in the tournament and the player auction will take place on January 8 and 9. >
The BCCI also announced a list of players that would be a part of the auction along with their reserve price. There were 416 players who would take part in the auctions from around the world and some of them were named in the highest bracket of reserve price at $400,000.>
There were earlier 12 players who were directly selected by their teams. These included the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga (all Mumbai), Virat Kohli (Bangalore), Shane Watson and Shane Warne (Rajasthan), Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Murali Vijay, Albie Morkel (Chennai) and Virender Sehwag (Delhi).
Off those put back into the auction pool, there were the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan.
Amongst those with the highest reserve price were Brian Lara, Dravid, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj.
There was no place for any Pakistani cricketer after the Board decided not to have them over for the tournament after a year of flip-flops. Similarly, Mitchell Johnson, Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting also find themselves out of the list, as do Matthew Hayden and Glen McGrath.
Amongst those in the $300,000 bracket are, Jacques Kallis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Zaheer Khan, Yusuf Pathan, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Kumar Sangakkara, and Angelo Mathews.
Rather surprisingly, Sourav Ganguly is a part of the auctions with a base price of $200,000 only apart from Gambhir and Doug Bollinger. Tamim Iqbal comes in $100,000 along with R Ashwin.
The fourth edition of the IPL will start from April 8 and will have ten teams play 74 games as was decided earlier.
