India's best ODI wins - Part I

We discuss India’s best wins in ODI cricket in this series of pieces.

We discuss India’s best wins in ODI cricket in this series of pieces. The first win that we discuss is as follows:

Versus England, Lord’s 2002: It was the final of the Natwest Trophy and for years India had been entering the finals and then, choking and losing them. While entering in tournament finals was a good enough by itself, the fans were not able to digest the fact that the Indian team had failed to win too many trophies.

Here was another tournament in which India had comfortably reached the final stage. On their way, they had won four of the games they played and lost only one, something that made him favourite to win the game too. Hero of the game>

As it turned out, England batted first and made a huge 325/5 in the 50 overs thanks to centuries from Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain and at this stage it looked like the Indians would again find it difficult to chase down such a total.Well played>

Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag provided the side a dream start, adding 106 in less than 15 overs but once the Indian captain was out, the rest of them collapsed to 146/5. No-one but two new-comers in Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif remained and the game was as good as gone.

As it turned out, both, Kaif and Yuvraj took the English bowling on and kept peppering them with a boundary almost every over. The pressure never built up and by the end, the English captain was seen angrily gesticulating. Yuvraj did get out but Kaif saw the side through with an unbeaten 87 and won the game for his side – eliciting a t-shirt waving from Ganguly in the Lord’s balcony. This was a site no Indian would ever forget as India went from strength to strength from the victory to get to the final of the 2003 World Cup.
