Best Sachin Tendulkar ODI innings - Part I

Sachin Tendulkar is in the form of his life.

Sachin Tendulkar is in the form of his life. That is a lot to say considering the fact that prior to this golden patch which started in 2007, he has had a very successful career spanning 18 years, in which he had broken most of the batting records. Cometh the hour, cometh the man>

However, he has reinvented himself in the past three years, following India’s disappointment in the 2007 World Cup. He has amassed runs against all opposition in both the formats (he has not played T20 at the international level). However, in the IPL he also showed how good he can be in that format as well, finishing as the top scorer in the third season.

Here we look at his five best ODI innings and it is no surprise that three of them have come in the last two years. He has a great liking for the Australians and three of his best are against them. In chronological order:

143 – Australia – Sharjah, 1998 Sachin had already been rated as one of the best batsman in the world before this innings but it was this innings that showed how he can turn a game on his own. Australia were without Glenn McGrath but had Shane Warne in prime form and Damien Fleming.

Australia had already qualified for the final but India’s chances hinged on the net run rate and they had to better New Zealand’s by the end of the game to advance to the final. Sachin took it on himself and looked set to take India home. He dispatched the ball to all corners of the ground and made the purists go berserk with his flawless stroke play.

The best image from the game would be that of the Little Master standing tall when a dust storm had stopped play and all the others were down shielding their eyes.

134 – Australia – Sharjah, 1998 When everyone thought that nothing could better the 143, Tendulkar came up with another masterful innings in the very next game. It was a bigger game, the final, and the stakes were higher than the previous game.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Once again India were chasing and it was a decent target. But nothing fazed Sachin and he once again looked focused. He had done enough to take India to the final in the previous game but this game he wanted to take India all the way.

The ease with which he played Warne was a sight to behold and the leg spinner could do nothing but shake his head and marvel the genius that is Tendulkar.
