Chennai Super Kings won the Champions League t20 by beating the Warriors in the final of the tournament by eight wickets and with an over to spare. The game that was played in the Wanderers in Johannesburg did not live up to its top billing and proved to be a one-sided one.Well played by Golden Bat winner>

Warriors batted first and were off to a flying start when the opening pair of Davy Jacobs and Ashwell Prince added 39 in the first four overs without getting separated. However, it was the dismissal of Prince that changed things around for the side. Prince was bowled by Doug Bollinger, and this was soon followed by the vital wicket of the tournament’s top-scorer till that time, Jacobs. R Ashwin was the wicket-taker. Effort in vain>

Unfortunately for the Warriors, they failed to recover from this blow as none of their batsmen managed to get anywhere close to how the captain had batted. Colin Ingram was slow off the blocks, while Mark Boucher and Justin Kreusch failed and it was only a 25 in the end by Craig Thyssen that saw the Warriors post a below-par 128/7 in their 20 overs. The worry for the side would have been the fact that the track was an easy one to bat on, and it had just been the manner in which the side had capitulated that hurt the Warriors.

In reply, Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey started out brightly. Their run-rate was not that high, but with the asking rate at less than 6.5, it did not require the chase to be a scurrying one. The pair put on 103 runs for the first wicket, off less than 15 overs. Vijay got to his half century and surpassed Jacobs to get to the top run-getters’ chart and win the Golden Bat award, while Hussey drove the side home to a win after Vijay’s dismissal.

Vijay won the man of the match award as well, while R Ashwin, who had captured 13 wickets in the tournament went on to capture the man of the series award.

Chennai became the second team after the New South Wales to win the Champions League T20.
