The Central Districts, like Otaga, who participated last year lost all their league games and failed to leave a mark on the cash rich tournament.

One of the reasons cited for the inability of the Districts to perform was, the lack of star players. Ross Taylor, a mainstay of the Stags’ line-up chose to play for the Royal Challengers and other star players that included all rounders Jacob Oram and Graham Napier were out injured.

Although the team from down under failed to win a single game, they still returned with US $ 400,000, half of which they received from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, to enable Ross Taylor to play for them.

James Vaughan was off the opinion that the format of the Champions League would enable the winners from the T20 League in New Zealand to participate in the cash rich league and also thought that if there’s any change in the format, it’ll only be to accommodate more teams.
