The ODI series also brought an end to Pakistan’s tour of England. Would be relieved to win it>

It had started on a sour note. The match fixing allegations after the fourth and final Test between the two sides were still fresh and Pakistan had also lost Salman Butt, Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amir to suspension. England won the first two games comfortably but credit to Pakistan for they fought well in both the games amidst the entire off field distractions.

The game took another ugly turn after the third game. Pakistan won the game played at the Oval through a brilliant all round display but after the game; the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt accused the England team of throwing the game away. England lost the fourth ODI as well as Pakistan once again outplayed the hosts. The series also saw a physical dispute between Jonathan Trott and Wahab Riaz with Trott allegedly calling Riaz a match fixer and hitting him on the face with a pad.

Amidst all this, both the teams played some excellent cricket as well. England saw the emergence of Andrew Strauss as an ODI cricketer. Strauss also finished as the leading run scorer of the series with 317 runs at 63.4 and at an excellent strike rate of 93.23. The series also confirmed the talent of Eoin Morgan, who scored an outstanding hundred in the final game of the series.

For Pakistan, Kamran Akmal returned to form and seemed to have developed a good partnership with Mohammed Hafeez at the top of the order. Umar Gul got back among the wickets and was crucial in both the games that Pakistan won. Abdur Razzaq also proved that he is capable of winning games with both bat and ball.

Shahid Afridi, the Pakistani captain, called this series as the toughest in his playing career citing on field and off field problems.
