The Lions will play South Australia in the fourth game of the Champions League T20 at the Centurion, the second of the Lions’ home grounds. This is South Australia’s first ever Champions League T20 game, whereas Lions had begun the competition with a win over the Mumbai Indians in the first match of the competition. >
Lions’ inception to the Champions League T20 was a rather exciting one, as they overcame the much fancied Mumbai Indians side in the opener. It must be said that the win was as much a result of some good batting and bowling as it was of some strange captaincy by the Mumbai skipper, Sachin Tendulkar. But the Lions will take it gleefully, as they now move into their game against the South Australian side will some confidence. >
The manner in which Jonathon Vandiar played, it did look like he was a man of great hurry. He had wasted no time in picking the gaps, hitting the ball over as well, and then taking the singles when the situation demanded. His batted seemed to have inspired the usually sedate Neil McKenzie into a brilliant 30-ball half century that carried the team through.
Against the South Australian side, the tactics may have to change, given that they will have a slightly quicker set of bowlers – those who should enjoy these conditions at Centurion. Shaun Tait is a slipper customer and thankfully for the Lions, the game is not a night game, where he becomes doubly dangerous. Apart from him, there is Peter George who will anything but like the Mumbai Indian bowling attack.
The batting for the South Australian lies in safe hands as well. The side is being led by Graham Manou, while the likes of Callum Ferguson and Daniel Christian will be good, middle-order batsmen with the ability to accelerate when necessary.
The Lions, on their part may not change too many things. Aaron Phansigo did not have a great match with the ball, but it was on expected lines against a side that loves spin bowling. That calculated assault apart, he could still be a part of the starting eleven – especially against a side that likes the ball coming on to the bat.
