Former Pakistani cricketer Younis Khan has instructed his lawyers to send a notice to the British tabloid, News of the World, who had exposed the murky match-fixing deal between Mazhar Majeed and some of the Pakistani players. >
The reason for this was that the News of the World had reported that Majeed and his brother Azhar were two of the agents with whom Younis Khan – amongst others – had signed up, and Younis has denied this.
Younis has asked the newspaper to issue a denial and to pay him 10,000 pounds for the flood relief in Pakistan. According to reports, Younis was one of the few players who had refused to sign up with the Majeed brothers.
The brothers had contacted a host of Pakistani cricketers in 2006 and finalised the deal. However, it is not yet known whether any official contract was signed between the brothers and the players involved. Azhar and Mazhar have handled sponsorship deals for the players in the UK.
Younis was the former captain of the Pakistani side, but resigned from captaincy in November 2009 saying that he had no control over the cricketers. He did play in the ODIs against Australia under Mohammad Yousuf, but was one of the players punished by the PCB, before the life ban was overturned. However, despite that happening, he has not been selected by the PCB. Even the current ODI and T20 captain, Shahid Afridi has requested the PCB to do so, but has expressed surprise over his non-selection.
