Kamran Akmal will not play in the second Test match of the series between Pakistan and England after his poor performances as a wicket-keeper seems to have finally caught up with him. Akmal had dropped a couple of crucial catches in the previous Test match against England and missed a stumping as well. >
This allowed the English side to pile on a big score despite the bowling-friendly conditions at Trent Bridge. Not only was his wicket-keeping a disaster, the batting was a big letdown as well. He scored a duck in each of the innings, and was at the crease for only five balls.
Pakistan’s captain Salman Butt said that Akmal was allowed a rest to overcome his bad time with the gloves. He also said that by affording him a break, it will allow him to relax and think about his own game.
Butt said, “I’m sure he is a champion player and he will work hard to make a comeback.”
24-year-old, Zulqarnain Haider will make his Test debut in place of Akmal. Haider has played in only one international before this, a T20 and has been on the sidelines ever since. Sarfraz Ahmed had been the back-up wicket-keeper for the Pakistani side, when Akmal was last dropped in Australia, but for this series, Haider is the designated wicket-keeper.
