Jesse Ryder continues to suffer from injury issues and will miss the tour of Sri Lanka in August due to an elbow injury. Ryder was earlier out of the New Zealand side for almost the whole of the 2009-10 season due to a groin injury he sustained during the Champions Trophy.>
Ryder’s elbow injury first flared up in the World T20 that he participated in, and he was not able to recover from it during the off-season. The pain associated with the elbow injury was more when he throws.
The coach of the New Zealand side, Mark Greatbatch said that because it was only a small tri-series, it would make sense for the side to rest Ryder till he recovers fully from his injury.
This will also mean that the side will need to go for a replacement for Ryder for the series. Already, Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum are both missing the series and Ross Taylor is the captain of the side.
The coach added that with the absence of the pair, the side was very inexperienced and would do well to win the tournament. The tournament will see India and Sri Lanka as the other two teams.
The New Zealand side goes to Sri Lanka on the 1st of August and will play India on August 10. The Kiwis also play three games against Maharashtra in Darwin to get some practice.
