Shahid Afridi has announced his retirement from Test match cricket after making a comeback to the format and playing only one game. Afridi announced this after his side was convincing beaten by Australia in the first Test match of the series at Lord’s by a margin of 150 runs. >
The PCB had appointed Afridi as the captain of the side in all the three formats of the game. Afridi has always been a reluctant player in the Test match format of the game and has twice previously resigned from this format of the game.
Afridi was criticised for this move by the former Pakistani likes of Imran Khan and Aamer Sohail, both of whom have said that Afridi’s decision to retire from the game in the middle of the tour was hardly the way to go about it. Imran Khan went up to the extent of asking Afridi to reconsider his decisions.
The PCB acted swiftly enough after that and appointed Salman Butt as the skipper of the side for the second Test match that will be played at Headingley. Post that, the Pakistani side will take on England in a four-Test match series as well.
Butt was the vice-captain of the Pakistani side for this tour.
